Descendants of John Longhurst (from the original)

John Longhurst, who lived in Ockley Surrey England in the 1500's, is a starting point for a series of descendants leading up to 1787, to the birth of Joseph Longhurst. Joseph and his family, including son James, were the first ancestral Longhursts in my family's line to settle in Canada. I am a descendant of Joseph, through his son James, James' son Archibald John, AJ's son Archibald Walter, and AW's son Archibald Thomas.

Big note...

Please read the site disclaimer. This material may contain errors.

2025-01-25... Years ago, the source document of this information was revised by the researcher who collected this data to accommodate new information.

This line as laid out has problems in it. This is the original line received and much of it may still be correct. To view the revision, please go here...

The revision was completed and received back in 2004. The revision, too, may have issues. No subsequent document has been received since.

Other researchers have their own opinions and sets of facts based on their own findings. I can accept that. Most, though, agree on the generations back to Richard Longhurst (born 1696), and most agree the common source point to be John Longhurst born c1515.

Some information had been put onto the familysearch.org website (and probably the ancestry.ca website also). To support a jumping off point, I have included in the table below the I.D.'s of those listed so a record of resemblance at that site can be viewed in that environment. Navigate to other individuals using the site's tools.

Details about dates and events can vary. I am confident in the information for the generations that came to, and lived in, Canada as I can research the data myself here, but I haven't checked everything.

For what has been found by others, especially overseas, I have no reason to not trust the providers of it.

A summary table that shows some of the problems...

If memory serves, it was a word doc that was received originally. It had a different format that laid out the generations by number. It is entirely possible that the errors have come about from my reformatting and editing the original.

This format below, of bullet points that shift to the right as each generation is entered, can be challenging to follow. Holding a soft pointing device against the screen while scrolling up and down should help show the correct alignment of data. Direct line information for my family has been coloured blue.

This table summarizes the original direct ancestral line according to the original descendants of John Longhurst document.

The earlier individuals do not match up well with familysearch.org individuals. The highlighted dates seem to be suspect.

Use the links to view what connections there are. Make your own judgment as to the level of accuracy overall.
